WWE Writer Reportedly Has Backstage Heat

It has been reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful that WWE writer Jen Pepperman has backstage heat because she brought her recently-won Daytime Emmy award to a production meeting.

Naturally, this being the hyper-sensitive world of the WWE creative team, the reaction was very negative with many members of staff rubbed the wrong way by her decision. Some in the company called the move “blind arrogance”.

This latest news follows a few weeks of turmoil on the WWE writing crew. A few months back it was revealed that Bruce Prichard and Dana Warrior had been added to the WWE creative braintrust, but as they came through the revolving door others headed out.

Road Dogg recently stepped down from his role as head writer of SmackDown in order to take on a new, still undefined behind the scenes role in the company. Kazeem Famuyise was cut, as was Dave Schilling, who had only been with WWE for a few months.

They followed RD Evans quitting his role as writer during the Hall of Fame ceremony in the middle of being berated by Vince McMahon. Why? Because Bret Hart mentioned Vince’s name (in a positive manner) during his Hart Foundation induction speech. Evans apparently stopped Vince, told him he quit, shook his hand and told him: “I hope you learned a valuable lesson”. Legend.

Several days ago Raw writer Ryan Callahan departed the promotion after several years on the staff. It was unrelated to ratings or any storyline but rather due to an issue with fellow writer Dave Kapoor, with whom he often butted heads.

Sounds like a really fun, rewarding job, doesn’t it?
