Since his WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble, AJ Styles as very much been a big star in the eyes of the company, holding the WWE Champion on two separate occasions. He is set to face Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view in what is being billed as a ‘dream match’.
Prior to his WWE debut, Styles was the leader of the Bullet Club faction in NJPW along with some of the top names in independent wrestling like the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. On his Mixer live stream, AJ Styles spoke about AEW, the promotion that Omega and the Bucks are Executive Vice Presidents of along with Cody Rhodes.
Styles spoke about his relationship with Omega, and said he hopes to see All Elite Wrestling succeed:
“I do miss Kenny. Kenny is a good friend of mine. Kenny Omega is a great friend of mine — The Bucks, also, good friends of mine. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, AEW, I hope they just do amazing. I hope they kill it. There’s no doubt in my mind that these guys are definitely going to work hard to make it something different, something new to be an alternative, and the great thing about this is it’s competition. Competition is always a good thing for fans. Like we want that. Competition makes everything better.”
Ever since AEW was announced, many people have suggested Styles as the WWE star they would like to see move over to the new promotion. However, it was reported several weeks ago that Styles has signed a new WWE deal and would be staying with the promotion.
However, two other stars who have been linked to AEW are Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder of The Revival. The former NXT Tag Team Champions have turned down massive $500,000 deals from WWE and could be on their way out of the promotion when their current contracts expire.
