The XFL has issued a statement confirming that the company plans for their relaunch season to commence in spring 2023.
The XFL’s 2020 return season was abruptly cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company went into bankruptcy before CEO Vince McMahon sold the XFL to an investment group led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson last summer.
There were plans to relaunch the XFL in early 2022, however a statement made to the Sports Business Journal confirmed that the relaunch had been postponed until 2023.
The statement reads as follows (courtesy of Ben Fischer):
“While our discussions with the CFL did not ultimately lead to a collaboration, the effort reinforced our belief and commitment to developing the XFL for international spring football. We look forward to seeing everyone for kickoff in spring of 2023.”
The delay announcement was made following reports that talks had ended between the XFL and the Canadian Football League (CFL).
The two leagues had entered talks a number of months ago, however it was recently announced that the two parties jointly decided to not pursue any formal arrangements.
