Zack Ryder – real name Matt Cardona – has addressed bringing back his WWE character following his SmackDown return.
Ryder made his WWE main roster return on the November 14 edition of SmackDown, revealed to be LA Knight’s surprise opponent in the John Cena Last Time is Now Tournament.
The former WWE star notably returned as his previous character, not as Matt Cardona, who he has been competing as outside of the company, and recently on NXT.
With Matt Cardona emphasising that “Zack Ryder is dead” throughout his time on the independent scene, and that he’d want a WWE run as Matt Cardona, the returning star has now addressed bringing back his previous character.
Independent star Richard Holliday took to Twitter to react to the return of Ryder, tweeting:
“I thought Zack Ryder was DEAD.”
Responding to this, Ryder simply wrote:
“He has risen”
Ryder’s first comments on his SmackDown return referenced his WWE entrance theme, with the returning star writing:
“WOO. WOO. WOO.”
Zack Ryder ultimately came up short against LA Knight, with Knight advancing in the tournament.
