Tonight on NXT, WWE announced there would be a Cruiserweight Title Match next week on USA. Drew Gulak vs. Lio Rush will take place on the show.
However, there was another announcement that appears to have been quietly made during the announcement of Gulak and Rush. It appears it will now be known as The NXT Cruiserweight Championship.

Nobody really said much about it on the show tonight. The name change just appeared in the graphic above, and has now been confirmed on WWE.com.

It makes a lot of sense for this name change to happen, unlike many of the ones WWE superstars have gotten recently. Many NXT superstars and 205 Live stars cross over between shows.
This could mean moving forward the Cruiserweight Championship won’t be relegated to WWE pay-per-view pre-shows. Maybe we’ll get to see some of these matches on NXT TakeOvers moving forward.
With 205 being a struggling brand, but still appearing on the WWE Network, it would seem WWE would want to keep the former NXT viewers tuning in on the network.
With regular NXT shows going two hours, it will need more superstars. Guys like Drew Gulak, Oney Lorcan, Kushida, and Angel Garza have been appearing on both shows.
This should help bolster rosters and provide depth if TakeOvers also expand. Either way, the match next week should be fantastic.
