Kazuchika Okada Milestone
And a huge congratulations to Kazuchika Okada for passing 700 days as New Japan’s IWGP Heavyweight Champion, who tweeted the number 700 in celebration.
RAAAAINUMAKER!
During his title run, Okada has set new records for both the longest ever reigning IWGP champion and the most title defences for one reign. This could all be coming to an end in several weeks’ time, though, when he goes against his 6 star rival Kenny Omega for a fourth time, where the two will compete in a 2-out-of-3 falls match at June 9th’s Dominion.
But while Okada’s busy setting records, Omega’s been throwing that shade at New Japan’s rivals.
Kenny Omega Jokes About WWE
In reply to a fan tweeting Kenny a picture of the 2002 WWE video game SmackDown Shut Your Mouth, asking what he knows about it, Omega replied:
“Isn’t that the poster for their next PPV?”
RAINUMAKER! This is hilarious because WWE still rely heavily on stars they made a decade and a half ago, like Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Triple H and Chris Jericho. Unlike New Japan who have created a new generation of exciting top guys like Kenny, Okada, Naito and also Chris Jericho.
Actually, WWE’s developmental system is so good at creating new stars, some main roster wrestlers actively want to go back there.
The Revival Return To NXT
At last Thursday’s NXT live event in Oklahoma City, while tag champions Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly cut a promo about being the “top guys” in WWE, main roster act The Revival made a surprise return to the promotion.
And it wasn’t just a one and done appearance, as they defeated The Forgotten Sons the day after, and lost in a title match against The Undisputed Era the night after that.
PWInsider recently noted that The Revival weren’t booked for WWE’s European tour, which is likely why they were featured on the NXT live shows while the rest of the main roster was out the country.
The Revival dominated NXT’s tag division during their developmental tenure, wrestling fantastic matches against DIY and American Alpha.
But their main roster call up last April has been derailed by multiple injuries and them being booked further down the card. It’s just the latest example of a successful NXT act being blundered on Raw or SmackDown, but The Revival’s Scott Dawson has tweeted there’s no need to feel sorry for him:
“Guys; I get to live my dream. I travel around the world. I’m able to take care of my family & give them a life I never had. And on top of all that, we got to tear the house down last night! Why would I be upset?! Relax.”
Guys, relax, everything’s fine.
Sasha Banks Wants NXT Cameo Too
And following The Revival’s surprise NXT return last week, their fellow Raw wrestler Sasha Banks got all nostalgic:
“Can I come next time”
It’s almost like NXT call ups don’t really help anyone.
