New WWE Raw Star To Be Pushed For WrestleMania 37

New WWE Raw Star To Be Pushed For WrestleMania 37

A recent WWE call-up could be protected all the way up to WrestleMania 37, with WWE thinking he could be a top star in the future.

Damien Priest has been doing well on Raw since being called up to the main roster. First appearing at Royal Rumble 2021, Priest has formed a successful partnership with famous musician Bad Bunny.

According to Dave Meltzer, it is unlikely that Priest will be taking any losses on the road to WrestleMania. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer pointed out that WWE has been looking for the next top Latin sensation since Alberto Del Rio first left.

Acknowledging Vince McMahon’s tendency to change his mind, Meltzer noted that Priest is everything McMahon looks for in his top talent.

Here is the full quote:

“He’s not gonna be losing any matches I don’t think. He’s gonna be protected for sure until WrestleMania and probably after. Plus, they like him. They see him as that Latin American star that they haven’t had, even though they have one, but the other one. The new young one, because he’s what, 38 (sarcasm). But they’ve been looking for that new Latin star ever since Alberto Del Rio left, and they’ve got a tall guy and he talks really well, and he moves really well, and he’s not bad in the ring, he’s good in the ring.

“I think he’s gonna get a real good chance. The only thing is Vince may wake up one day and forget all of what I just said, and just go ‘Ah, he hasn’t been here for 15 years, I don’t know who he is, he’s not a real star’. I don’t know what Vince says that leads to giving up on these guys but he gives up on everyone so I figure that the odds he’s not gonna give up on Priest at some point are not good. But for right now, he’s in a good spot and he’s doing well.”

Priest recently helped Bad Bunny win the 24/7 Championship. Although he featured in a 24/7 segment, the fact the title wasn’t put on him could confirm that WWE sees potential in Priest because they don’t want him pinned, even for the 24/7 Title.

The last time that Priest was pinned in a match was by Karrion Kross at NXT New Year’s Evil in January. Since moving to Raw, Priest is undefeated, winning singles matches against Angel Garza and current WWE Champion The Miz.

While Priest’s WrestleMania direction is unclear, it will be interesting to see what WWE has in store for him come April 10 and 11. It was reported previously that WWE was planning Priest & Bad Bunny vs The Miz & John Morrison.
