WWE are reportedly protecting a rising SmackDown star for major future plans.
On this week’s episode of SmackDown, Sami Zayn took on the Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa, with Solo picking up the victory with the Samoan Spike.
Commentary pointed out during the match that Solo has yet to be pinned or submitted during his time on the WWE main roster since his call up at Clash at the Castle in September.
Speaking about Zayn’s match with Sikoa on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE are not going to beat Sikoa, as they are saving him for a future match against Roman Reigns.
He said:
“When he (Sami Zayn) wrestled Corbin, if they saw him as a top guy like they saw Cody Rhodes… Cody Rhodes ran through Corbin like it was nothing. Sami sold the whole match and then got his win. With Solo (vs Kevin Owens), they ended on a double countout because they’re not going to beat Solo. Because they’re saving Solo for Roman whenever that day comes. But with Sami (vs Sikoa), Samoan Spike and he pins him.”

Solo is set to face off with Kevin Owens once again on tonight’s (March 6) episode of Raw.
