When it comes to things I didn’t expect to see on WWE SmackDown tonight, Von Wagner was definitely on that list.
In a backstage segment tonight, Wagner was stood next to ‘WWE Official’ Adam Pearce as Pearce told Sami Zayn he had a match against Jeff Hardy to determine which of them was being removed from the SmackDown men’s Survivor Series team.
Hardy won the match so Zayn was taken off the team.
It would appear, although not confirmed yet, that Wagner is in somewhat of a bodyguard role for Pearce.
This would make sense considering Pearce recently suspended and fined Brock Lesnar and was then attacked by Lesnar, so he’d theoretically be scared of that happening again.
The commentators literally said “who was that?”, so Wagner may also be getting a new name and the whole shebang if this is a full call-up.
Per @ScrapDaddyAP, it'll be @SamiZayn vs. @JEFFHARDYBRAND TONIGHT on #SmackDown… and the loser gets removed from the #SmackDown Men's #SurvivorSeries team! pic.twitter.com/l7v1IfXxoB
