An update has emerged on Jay White, following his ‘loser leaves Japan’ match at NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka.
During the February 11 show, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion was defeated by ex-Bullet Club member Hikuleo.
Per the stipulation of the bout, White now has to leave Japan, and cannot compete for the Japanese division of NJPW.
With White seemingly set for a wrestling run in the US, there has been a lot of speculation about his next move.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), WWE sources have repeatedly confirmed that the company is interested in White.
It was also noted that WWE at one point felt confident that they could get White to sign with them, although this is reportedly hardly guaranteed now.
Following speculation about a potential White appearance at Royal Rumble, Fightful reports that there were never discussions for White at the WWE premium live event.
While speaking with NJPW sources, Fightful was told “obviously we’d love to keep him,”
The report also pointed out that White has positive relationships with both IMPACT and AEW.
White will be in action at the February 18 Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California, against AEW’s Eddie Kingston in singles action.
It’s believed that White’s NJPW contract is up “sometime between” Battle in the Valley and WrestleMania,
