A ROH World Title Proving Ground match kicked off this week’s episode.
Week three of the new era of Ring of Honor television on Honor Club opened with ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli competing in a proving ground match against a debuting star on the show.
The debuting star was former IMPACT Wrestling and Lucha Underground competitor Willie Mack. Mack has made several appearances for AEW, but this was his first on the new era of ROH.
A proving ground match comes with a 10 minute time limit and if the challenger wins or last the time limit, he will get a shot at the title.
The two men had a competitive match with Mack looking good against the Blackpool Combat Club member. Commentary mentioned if Mack won, he would want to cash in his title shot in his hometown of Los Angeles at the upcoming ROH Supercard of Honor event.
Despite Mack’s best efforts, Castagnoli defeated Willie Mack with a running European Uppercut.
It still remains to be seen who will challenge Castagnoli now for the ROH World Title, but over the past few weeks, Eddie Kingston has established himself as the likely top contender.
Castagnoli has been none too pleased with Kingston’s advances at challenging for the title. Last week, Claudio said “no man without honor could hold his title.”
“The Mad King” will be in action later in the show.
We will have further updates on this week’s episode when they become available.
