Hikaru Shida has named an AEW star as the opponent she most wants to face as new champion.
On the 200th episode of AEW Dynamite, Hikaru Shida defeated Toni Storm to win the AEW Women’s World Championship. This marked Shida’s second reign as champion.
With her first reign being the longest in the title’s history, Shida faced a litany of accomplished challengers, such as Nyla Rose, Anna Jay and Thunder Rosa.
Speaking with Ella Jay of SEScoops, Hikaru Shida was asked if there was anyone she wanted to face during this reign. She replied:
“Yeah, actually, I have one name. It’s Athena. We had just one single at SHIMMER. It was a long time ago, but I really love that much.”
“I’m watching her for a long time, of course, in AEW but before when she was in the other company, I saw her long time and always she’s good. So yeah, I believe in this reign I wrestle her. I really want to.”
Hikaru Shida will defend the AEW Women’s World Championship in a four-way match against Toni Storm, Saraya and the winner of Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. vs. The Bunny on the August 16 edition of AEW Dynamite at AEW All In London on August 27.
