‘Problem’ With AEW TV Viewership Revealed AEW

AEW is seemingly having difficulty holding onto the younger demographic of viewers that are described as a ‘fickle’ audience.

The May 8 episode of AEW Dynamite seeing a viewership of 711,000 with a 0.24 rating for the 18-49 demographic, according to Wrestlenomics.

The May 11 episode of AEW Collision secured an audience of 378,000 and 0.12 for the 18-49 demographic with that night’s AEW Rampage hitting 324,000 and 0.11.

Dave Meltzer has analyzed the numbers and identified a problem in the 18-34 demographic on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:

“Rampage actually didn’t fall off a cliff like it did the previous two shows, it wasn’t like there was this mass turnoff except in males aged 18-34, well really 18-34 in total but mostly males aged 18-34.

“In 35-49 more people watched Rampage than they did Collision, for whatever reason.”

Meltzer would go on to explore the 18-34 age group more specifically, noting the issues with that demographic, stating:

“The problem with AEW right now is the 18-34, that’s a fickle group that will watch you when you’re hot.

“In 35-49, they’re basically in the ball park of what they’ve been doing for a long, long time but 18-34 is a problem.”

He did have a suggestion as to how to turn the demographic around, adding:

“To change that they have to be cool and they have to be whatever it is.

“They went from 50,000 for Collision to 20,000 for Rampage, so a 60% drop in that demo but in all the other demos there was essentially no drop and actually very slight gains in 35-49.”

On AEW Dynamite, the Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) are on a quest to improve’ the company and have recently ‘fired’ Christopher Daniels.

AEW is currently heading towards Double or Nothing on May 26, 2024, in Las Vegas.
