Rey Mysterio was betrayed by his LWO stablemate Santos Escobar on last week’s episode of SmackDown.
Santos’ betrayal of Rey came after Rey and Logan Paul’s United States Championship bout at Crown Jewel, where Santos left a pair of brass knuckles on the apron, allowing Paul to use them to beat Mysterio and win the title.
However, we may now know the real reason why Santos attacked Rey on the show.
Earlier today, Mysterio shared a picture to his Facebook page, revealing that he just had surgery on his right knee.
In an update from Haus of Wrestling, Mysterio has been working through a torn meniscus for around three months, which has slowly worsened.
Due to the injury worsening, Mysterio agreed to lose the United States Championship to Paul, as well as take part in the angle on Friday before leaving for his surgery.
Rey is expected to be out of action for around six to eight weeks, with him likely free to be cleared for a return in January.
Santos Escobar gave a savage response to Rey’s knee surgery on Twitter, which you can see here.
