A WWE star reportedly turned down a “good offer” from AEW before signing a deal with the TKO-owned company.
Although he’s still yet to compete on his assigned brand of Monday Night Raw, Andrade has been back with WWE for just over a month now – returning to the company at the 2024 Royal Rumble.
The return of the Mexican star was long expected once his AEW deal expired at the end of 2023, and while Andrade’s mind seemed made up for a little while it turns out that Tony Khan did indeed attempt to keep the former NXT Champion.
This comes via the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer on Twitter, who responded to a user’s post regarding AEW ‘letting’ Andrade walk out of the company.
A claim Meltzer refuted, saying:
Andrade was given a good offer to stay. He decided to leave.
Reports linking Andrade with a return to WWE had been circulating for over a year before he actually departed AEW, with his wife Charlotte Flair a prominent star in WWE.
The 34-year-old also previously had his most successful period in WWE under Triple H’s creative in NXT, so it seemed likely that a return would interest him in favor of staying in AEW – where he had not achieved as much success as many envisioned when he arrived in 2021.
Despite not making his WWE Raw in-ring return just yet, Andrade did appear on this week’s show, stating that he was set to find out who his first opponent was set to be from Raw GM Adam Pearce.
