A recent WWE heel turn was reportedly kept to just those involved in the segment prior to the show airing.
Last night’s NXT show was the first episode of the show following NXT’s biggest premium live event in history, Stand & Deliver at the Wells Fargo Center.
The show saw the crowning of a new NXT Women’s Champion, when Roxanne Perez defeated former champion Lyra Valkyria to become only the third ever two-time NXT Women’s Champion.
To kick off last night’s show, Perez cut her first promo as champion, where she was confronted by Lyra, who challenged her to a rematch for the title on the show.
However, Lyra was joined by Tatum Paxley, who told her that she was not cleared to compete, before she betrayed Lyra, turning heel and attacking the former champion.
Tatum had been attempting to align with Lyra during her run as the NXT Women’s Champion, before telling her that ‘it’s not yours anymore’.
In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), Paxley’s heel turn was not rehearsed before the show, and was kept to just those involved in the opening segment.
Roxanne Perez did end up defending her title on the show, defeating Natalya thanks to interference from Lola Vice.
