Following his performance at AEW WrestleDream, the door has opened up for Adam Copeland to capture the AEW World Championship.

After qualifying for the Clockwork Carnage main event on this week’s Dynamite show, Adam Copeland made the announcement that he would be retiring from wrestling in 2027, which motivated his decision to chase the AEW World Championship.

Cope and Christian Cage lost the AEW World Tag Team Championship at All Out to the Young Bucks, with Christian suffering injuries during the match that brought an end to their tag team reunion run.

Adam Copeland was the fan favourite at WrestleDream

During the match at last night’s WrestleDream event, Copeland entered the match at number 7, with him having zero falls to his name until there were only 3 minutes remaining on the clock.

Cope scored two immediate falls over Samoa Joe and Ricochet, before he hit Kazuchika Okada with a Spear in the dying seconds, with Will Ospreay hitting Cope with a Hidden Blade after he went for the pin, scoring the last fall over Copeland to win the match and retain the title.

During his late match comeback, the fans in Orlando were strongly behind Copeland, with some even unhappy when Ospreay scored the win due to wanting to see Copeland cross the finish line.

After the match, Copeland and Ospreay would shake hands, with Cope boldly telling Ospreay ‘I want that’ in relation to the title.

Can Adam Copeland win the AEW World Championship?

Copeland has previously challenged for the AEW World Championship when Jon Moxley reigned as Champion, with him coming up short in the main event of last year’s Revolution pay-per-view.

However, last night proved that, with a definitive end in sight for Copeland’s career and AEW run, the fans are more than willing to get behind Copeland in his pursuit of the title.

While Copeland and Ospreay have teased a future match against each other following WrestleDream, it’s more likely that both Darby Allin and Samoa Joe are in Ospreay’s immediate future, given both men scored falls over the champion in last night’s main event.

WWE gave John Cena one final record-breaking world championship run last year during his retirement tour, and AEW could do the same this year with Copeland after his performance and support at last night’s event.
