The announced match between Damian Priest and R-Truth was called off due to referee stoppage after an injury sustained to Truth.

After they failed to regain the WWE Tag Team Championship from the MFTs on SmackDown in Mexico City, Damian Priest turned on his former partner R-Truth, turning heel for the first time in over two years.

Following the turn, Truth and Priest’s match was announced for tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown, but the match ended up going to an early end.

Minutes into the match, Truth took a rough bump from a Dropkick, with the referees then checking on him before throwing out the match.

Priest would go to ringside to get a steel chair after the match was thrown out, but he would not end up attacking Truth as Nathan Frazer and Axiom came to the ring to chase him off, with Truth leaving with the doctors.

Per False Finish, the finish for the match was initially set to see Priest pick up the win over Truth, with Fraxiom saving him from the attack after the match.

The injury to Truth is legitimate and led to the match being called off.

We wish Truth all the best and a full and complete recovery from his injury.

Will Damian Priest return to the top following heel turn?

In 2024, Damian Priest reached the top of the WWE mountain when he captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL, before losing the title to Gunther at SummerSlam that year.

Following his World Championship loss, Priest would turn babyface and achieve a mixed level of success, including big wins over names like Finn Balor and Drew McIntyre following his move to the SmackDown brand once he left the Judgment Day.

Over the past year however, Priest had somewhat hit a ceiling as a babyface, settling into the midcard on SmackDown during his months long rivalry with Aleister Black, with him then going on to form his alliance with Truth, with them capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship back in March.

After a year of settling into the midcard, Priest’s heel turn could lead to him once again climbing up to the upper card of SmackDown, potentially even taking the United States Championship from Trick Williams.
