Tony Khan has confirmed an AEW WrestleDream 2026 championship match is off after a current champ is injured.

An injury update after a popular star has been back in action since a relatively short amount of time, Tony Khan has revealed that Jamie Hayter is injured.

Jamie Hayter out of action

Going live on Instagram after the three-hour broadcast of AEW Dynamite & Collision aired on Wednesday, October 14, Tony Khan revealed that one half of the AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions was still on the shelf due to injury.

Noting that Hayter was still banged up from her Chicago Street Fight match to defend the titles with her partner Alex Windsor at AEW All Out, he expected the star to be out for several more weeks.

Also revealing some sad news for fans of the women’s tag team division in AEW, Khan would note an upcoming change to AEW WrestleDream 2026.

Khan would confirm that the bout set for AEW WrestleDream 2026 featuring The Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor) vs. Wrathlander (Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron) would be postponed.

Potentially still set to occur in the future, it did not sound as though there was any immediate plan to replace Hayter as champ.

However, should the injury end up being lingering – there could be a back-up already in place on the AEW women’s roster.

Could Dani Luna become substitute Bird?

Potentially a new member of the Brawling Birds, recent AEW pick-up Dani Luna could fit the bill to sub in for Hayter.

While she may have made her debut in AEW at AEW All Out in a losing effort at the TBS Championship against Persephone, Dani Luna has still come out swinging.

Picking up a victory along with Hyan during her AEW Collision debut on October 14 against Persephone and Dr. Britt Baker, DMD – perhaps the London born Luna would be the perfect sub-in for Hayter.

Able to sub-in with Alex Windsor if necessary, the duo could end up becoming an unexpected delight in the event that Hayter’s injury ends up resulting in a longer time out of action.

AEW Women’s Tag Team division: so much talent, not enough time

AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship belts

Boasting arguably a more robust women’s tag division than WWE, AEW certainly is full of talented teams.

However, with the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles largely feeling like a forgotten aspect of the brand and certainly not boasting the same acclaim on the roster as their counterparts from the men’s division, there are certainly strides left to make.

Able to continue to capitalize on the deep bench of talent, hopefully the injury to Hayter doesn’t delay any growing momentum that the overall tag division could capitalize on.

With the likes of the Sisters of Sin, Britt Baker & Persephone, Divine Dominion, The Vendetta and more still on the roster – there could definitely be some intriguing feuds moving forward.
