WWE star Drew McIntyre hasn’t been seen in WWE since his WrestleMania 42 but he opened up about why and Triple H’s reaction.

After being absent from WWE after picking up a loss to Jacob Fatu, Drew McIntyre has yet to return to WWE TV but has just shared that there’s a very Hollywood reason why.

Long absence for good reason

Speaking with Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk, McIntyre revealed exactly why he’s been away from WWE for so long.

McIntyre said:

“Once I finished Highlander, I was about to return to WWE, and I got a phone call from the agent, and he said to me, ‘Russell Crowe is asking for you to be in a movie.’

“Then I really liked the script. I loved the character, and the fact Russell was asking for me was just bizarre to me. I guess he went to Henry and kind of asked about me. Henry put me over for the performance on Highlander.”

Sharing how he framed the possibility of taking further time off, McIntyre said:

“We got working with WWE and said, ‘I know I’ve been out for a couple of months and supposed to come back, but there’s this thing here. I think it’s a big opportunity.

“I’m not leaving. I want to be the first full-time WWE wrestler that’s done two movies with A-listers back to back. I think it’s a great look for the company.”

Triple H’s reaction

Sharing Triple H’s reaction was positive and certainly didn’t require an extended negotiation,  McIntyre noted he was a bit disappointed to not be able to deliver his entire pitch.

Drew shared:

“I was like, ‘Oh, damn it. But Paul, I’ve got all these notes and things. I didn’t even get to tell you.’ He was like, ‘No, D, you’re good. Just don’t even have to tell me,’”

Hollywood Drew

Going on to comment that he is focused on “Hollywood Drew” at the minute, McIntyre could actually return with an epic new spin to his character.

Fully embodying the “Hollywood” moniker in a way that the other current roster members have shied away from at present – McIntyre could resurrect a solid heel trope.

Being genuinely too cool to be there but contractually obligated to return, McIntyre could bring a brand new iteration of his character around by reminding the rest of the roster they were squarely beneath him now.

Hollywood Alliance with The Rock?

In Drew McIntyre’s absence, there may have been plenty of developments across  WWE storylines but nothing that would prevent him from rejoining the cast of top guys in the company.

Perhaps making for the more interesting new character iteration, Drew could truly embody the “Hollywood Drew” persona in his WWE return with an important new ally.

With teases throughout the past few years of a bubbling albeit lowkey alliance coming together between The Final Boss and Drew McIntyre – it could be that it is really McIntyre who serves as the latest emissary for The Rock in WWE.
