Every WrestleMania Main Event Ranked By Star Rating

Chris Jericho vs. Triple H – WrestleMania X8 – 3.00 Stars

Triple H made his triumphant return from a torn quad at the Royal Rumble setting up the match with the man who injured him months earlier.

After that, rising tensions between the ‘Game’ and his wife Stephanie led to the end of the McMahon-Helmsley regime. McMahon accompanied Jericho to the ring that night.

The match was fairly good, Triple H emerged the victor, and looked like a returning conqueror after his injury.

The pair had to follow the emotional roller coaster of a ride that Hulk Hogan and The Rock had taken the fans on earlier though, and they just couldn’t follow that performance.

The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns – WrestleMania 33 – 3.00 Stars

This match was meant to be a crowning achievement for Reigns, but considering there was no streak on the line and Undertaker was far past any point of putting on a decent match it really felt more like a sad end to the career of the Undertaker.

We really got an extended beat down of a middle-aged man with nothing left to prove by a young lion. After Reigns got the win, the ‘Phenom’ left his coat, hat, and gloves in the ring.

The show ended after Taker walked halfway up the ramp and was lowered down under the stage.

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns – WrestleMania 34 – 3.00 Stars

This was the fourth consecutive WrestleMania main event for Reigns and the second of those four against Lesnar.

This match was a story of the crowd. WWE had made the decision to turn the crowd against Lesnar, telling them Lesnar hated them and the wrestling business. All of this was an attempt to get Reigns cheered at WrestleMania but what happened was far from it. The crowd hated this match. Neither man was cheered and the crowd was more interested in throwing beach balls around than watching the main event.

Only after busting reigns open with an elbow and delivering a sixth F5 did Lesnar win.

Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair – WrestleMania 35 – 3.00 Stars

The only time WrestleMania has been main evented by women, WrestleMania 35 closed with Becky Lynch holding both women’s championship over her head.

Lynch, Rousey and Charlotte were the top women in the company at the time. Lynch, in particular, had skyrocketed in popularity in the prior year, leading to this match. The match itself was a tad sloppy, sullied by a rollup finish where Rousey accidentally got her shoulder up.

All in all, this was good. Very few people are going to legitimately complain about this one.

Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin – WrestleMania XIV – 3.25 Stars

Tyson and Austin! Tyson and Austin!

Anyways, the ‘Heartbreak Kid’ and the ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ faced off with special outside enforcer, former heavyweight boxing champion Iron Mike Tyson.

After Tyson and Austin came to blows before the show and Tyson being seemingly aligned with Michaels and DX, it seemed like Austin had no chance of leaving champion.

Tyson, however, proved to be as unpredictable inside the ring as out and double-crossed Michaels giving Austin the victory. The match was the launching point of Steve Austin as WWF Champion and he never looked back.
