Raw
Elias defeated Bobby Roode
This match was far better than Elias and Roode’s encounter last week. The pace seemed a lot quicker and it definitely benefited from a hot Montreal crowd. There was also a great story throughout, with Elias targeting the ‘Glorious One’s throat, and this eventually played into the finish when Elias sent Roode into the turnbuckle throat-first and the latter couldn’t continue, so the referee called the match off.
The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) defeated Jean-Paul and Francois
Je m’appelle Liam. French-Canadians seemed to be a prominent part of Raw this week, after all, it was in Montreal. Akam and Rezar were having absolutely none of it, however, and squashed the two ‘local talents’ in next to no time.
Ruby Riott defeated Sasha Banks
Ruby Riott and Sasha Banks put on an absolutely fantastic match. Had it happened last week, it would have been ‘match of the show’. This encounter went a very decent length, both competitors got their offense in, and it concluded with some Riott Squad shenanigans that allowed Riott to hit Banks with a Riott Kick and take the victory.
Bobby Lashley, Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns defeated Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
This match was a mess. Three men in this match got cheered. The first two were hometown heroes Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, and the other was Braun Strowman, who was on the other team. This meant the match made very little sense and ended with Strowman pinning KO after Reigns and Lashley had been dominated for a large portion of the match.
No Way Jose defeated Baron Corbin
I’m not entirely sure what to make of this. Corbin seemed to have the upper hand, and then Titus O’Neil came out, (we’ll get into why later), purposely slipped over, distracted Corbin, and Jose won with a roll-up.
Natalya defeated Mickie James
The focus in this match was less the women in the ring, and more on those in Natalya and James’ corners. Rousey had Natalya’s back, so when Alexa Bliss tried to interfere, ‘Rowdy’ Ronda chased her around the ring a couple of times, and Natalya got the roll-up win.
Seth Rollins (c) defeated Finn Balor – WWE Intercontinental Championship
As we’d all have expected, this match was superb. It just makes me wonder why they keep giving it to us on free TV. Nevertheless, despite us seeing it about 16 times in the last month (maybe a slight exaggeration), they always manage to do something different and that is a testament to the talent that both men possess. Rollins retained his title and built momentum heading into Backlash where he will defend against former champ, The Miz.
Match of the Show
My ‘Match of the Show’ pick changed multiple times throughout Monday’s edition of Raw. I initially thought Elias vs. Bobby Roode had a good chance of taking it, but the accolade was then passed over to Ruby Riott and Sasha Banks. This was until the main event though, and ‘Match of the Show’ goes to the WWE Intercontinental Championship bout between the retaining champion Seth Rollins, and the ‘Extraordinary Man who can do Extra-ordinary Things’, Finn Bálor.
