WWE made a big change to Roman Reigns’ presentation for Friday’s (July 28) edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
Friday’s show featured several Bloodline segments ahead of Jey Uso challenging for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship in a Tribal Combat match at SummerSlam.
Roman Reigns was draped in considerably less gold when entering the arena this week, with Paul Heyman no longer carrying the old WWE and Universal title belts.
Instead, Heyman was just holding Reigns’ Tribal Chief lei.
Despite Triple H presenting Reigns with a new Undisputed Universal Title belt on the June 2 show, Heyman previously carried the defunct WWE and Universal belts, so Reigns would be draped in three pieces of title gold.
It’s currently unclear whether or not this is a permanent change, but it’s worth noting that Heyman not having the other belts put a bigger focus on Reigns’ lei.
The lei, or ‘Ula Fala’ is the necklace Reigns wears to mark himself as the Tribal Chief. Made from seeds of the Pandanus tree, this was gifted to Roman Reigns by Afa and Sika following Reigns’ win over Jey Uso at Hell in a Cell 2020.
Jey Uso previously said that it was ‘the Elders’ idea’ for him to challenge Roman Reigns in a Tribal Combat match at SummerSlam.
