Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER’s recent house show matches have potentially revealed who the Ring General’s next feud will be against.
GUNTHER has established himself as one of WWE’s most dominant names, with the Austrian star currently extending his run as the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history.
While the Ring General is rarely defeated, GUNTHER recently met his match at Sunday’s (February 18) WWE Road to WrestleMania house show in California.
GUNTHER defended his gold against Chad Gable during this show. Interestingly, GUNTHER didn’t pick up a win, with the match called off following Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci’s interference.
This led to Imperium attacking Gable before Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods ran down to make the save.
A six-man tag-team match was then made, with GUNTHER, Kaiser and Vinci ultimately losing to Gable, Kingston and Woods.
Gable getting the better of GUNTHER arguably twice during this event has fuelled speculation that he will soon renew his rivalry with the Ring General on WWE TV.
These rumors are also fuelled by the fact that Gable has been the only star to challenge for the IC Title during this month’s house show loop, with the Alpha Academy leader squaring off against GUNTHER in singles action at the February 3 and 4 shows.
As WWE often uses house shows to test out matches and feuds that are later brought to TV, many fans have called for Gable to get another shot at GUNTHER’s gold in a TV or PLE match, following the duo’s trilogy on Raw in 2023.
Gable has been calling for this match too, noting that he wants to finish his story by dethroning GUNTHER.
GUNTHER is set to defend his Intercontinental Championship on Monday’s (February 19) edition of Raw, against Jey Uso.
