Huge Star Latest To Be Released By WWE

Just shy of two weeks ago, WWE released several wrestlers, ranging from Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to MJ Jenkins and Deonna Purrazzo. However, it has emerged that another member of the roster may have been quietly released, and it may come as a surprise to many.

Taking to Twitter, Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT is reporting that WWE has released former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez after just over six months with the company.

Cain was only brought into WWE in October 2019, reportedly rejecting a contract offer from AEW in favour of signing with Vince McMahon’s company.

Velasquez’s first WWE match was for the WWE Championship in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel with Brock Lesnar. The match was incredibly underwhelming, with Brock squashing Cain in just over two minutes.

This was Velasquez’s only televised WWE match. Despite reportedly signing a multi-year deal just six months ago, Velasquez has seemingly been let go by WWE.

On the one hand, this release makes sense. If Velasquez wasn’t being used, it makes sense for WWE to let him go, especially considering the company probably offered him a substantial wage to sign for them last year.

However, it only goes further to highlight just how spiteful of a signing this was for WWE. They clearly had no real plans for Cain, and their desire to sign him was likely largely fuelled by the fact AEW were also interested in his services.
