It was recently reported by WrestleVotes that an NXT talent was slated to be called up on last week’s SmackDown. They were to be involved in the main event segment with Roman Reigns, Jey Uso and Kevin Owens. However, the call-up was scrapped.
Now, we know who the call-up was supposed to be. Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that it was meant to be Damian Priest who was to be involved in the SmackDown main event. Neither report included details regarding what Priest would have been doing besides being involved in the main event angle.
Damian Priest has been pushed consistently on NXT in 2020. After a breakout match against Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver: In Your House, Priest went on to win the NXT North American Championship. He has since lost the title to Johnny Gargano.
There is no telling when we might see Priest get called up to the main roster, however, these two reports would indicate that WWE has interest in calling him up sooner rather than later.
We will keep you updated on his status as more updates become available.
