Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Rey Mysterio has a great deal of creative input in the ongoing storyline between his daughter Aalyah and Murphy on SmackDown.
The storyline has been met by a fair amount of criticism online, with some thinking that the age gap between the two is too large for WWE to be portraying a love angle. However, others see no issue with it, as both are of legal age.
Following on from this, Meltzer speculated that WWE may be building towards a wedding segment between Murphy and Aalyah, especially considering how much Vince McMahon seemingly loves weddings on WWE TV.
Meltzer explained that a similar storyline happened in WWC with Konnan. He said he wanted to marry Stacy Colon (Primo’s sister, and after doing so and being accepted by the family, Konnan then turned on Stacy.
Meltzer noted that it isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility to suggest that Rey Mysterio has used some ideas and inspiration from this storyline in his input for the Aalyah and Murphy segments.
