In February 2019, it was revealed that Hideo Itami had been granted his WWE release. Soon after, Itami returned to New Japan Pro Wrestling as KENTA.
Since his WWE departure, KENTA has wrestled the likes of Zack Sabre Jr., Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi, even picking up victories over Okada and Tanahashi.
However, KENTA is seemingly not yet satisfied with the high-quality opponents that he has faced already, and has challenged former WWE Champion CM Punk to a match.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, the former NXT and 205 Live star said he wants to have a match against CM Punk.

A KENTA vs. CM Punk clash would certainly be regarded as a dream-match by many. With the wrestling world being a crazy place, never say never to the possibility of the bout taking place.
This comes after it was reported yesterday that CM Punk’s representatives had approached FOX about possibly co-hosting a WWE Talk Show on FS1.
