NXT Live Tapings Spoilers

NXT Live Tapings Spoilers

This will be updated throughout the evening as the results come in from NXT’s latest set of tapings from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.

Following the arrival of Tommaso Ciampa (NXT Champion), Johnny Gargano (NXT North American Champion), Ricochet and Aleister Black to the main roster, the developmental brand is about to undergo a major shakeup.

If you do not wish to know what happens over the next several weeks of NXT television then turn away now . . .

  • The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is confirmed for 2019
  • War Raiders def. Chico Adams & Vandal Ortagun
  • Johnny Gargano cut a promo saying he failed in his first challenge as North American champion “last week” (against Velveteen Dream). Tommaso Ciampa came out and said their performances on the main roster proved they are better off together. He said he wanted them to team again and go back to where they started: the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic. It’s official – DIY are in the tournament.
  • Aliyash & Vanessa Borne def. Tanyara Conti & Xia Li
  • It’s Keith Lee vs. Dominic Dijakovic in a rematch from the 2017 PWG BOLA tournament – a match awarded five stars by Dave Meltzer. The bout ends in a double count out and a pull-apart brawl, so this one is going to continue at a later date.
  • Shayna Baszler def. Mia Yim
  • The bracket is revealed for the Dusty Rhodes tag classic. On one side we have Brits Moustache Mountain vs. EVOLVE tag champs Street Profits and Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch vs. Forgotten Sons. On the other we have DIY vs. Undisputed Era (blimey) and Aleister Black and Ricochet vs. Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel. That’s some line-up.
  • Ricochet & Aleister Black def. Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel to advance in the tournament.
  • In a result that could perhaps be considered an upset, Forgotten Sons def. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch to advance.
  • An angle between new North American champ Velveteen Dream and Matt Riddle looks likely to set up a match between them at TakeOver.
  • Moustache Mountain def. Street Profits to advance to the semi finals against Forgotten Sons. The final Dusty QF is next.
  • DIY advance to the final with a victory over The Undisputed Era. That means DIY or Ricochet & Aleister Black will be in the finals at TakeOver. Which is interesting given they might also be on WrestleMania! War Raiders have a staredown with DIY after the match.
  • Luke Menzies def. Eric Bugenhagen, much to the anger of the crowd.
  • Sasha Banks and Bayley turn up out of the blue to “share” their achievement of becoming WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions with the place that made it all possible. Then in a HUGE piece of news, they say the belts will be defended on Raw, SmackDown AND NXT. Wow.
  • Pat McAfee is introduced and joins the broadcast team.
  • Adam Cole def. Punishment Martinez
  • Maybe we spoke too soon earlier. Following his win, Adam Cole called out Velveteen Dream and received a slap for his troubles. Martinez then took out Cole for Dream to hit him with a top rope elbow. A four-way at TakeOver perhaps? Or another ladder match for the belt?
  • Forgotten Sons def. Moustache Mountain to book their place in the finals of the Dusty Rhodes classic. Another surprise result, in my book.
  • Io Shirai vs. Bianca Belair goes to a double DQ due to Shayna Baszler (who was on commentary) doing a run-in. Kairi Sane made the save but got choked out. Another set-up for a multi-match at TakeOver?
  • Ricochet and Aleister Black def. DIY to advance to the finals. DIY wrestled in matching DIY gear, which I would take as a pretty clear indication that they are going to be a regular duo on the main roster as part of Vince McMahon’s tag team revolution . . .
  • . . . Although, perhaps not! Unless WWE is going to act like the NXT and main roster universes are an entirely different beast then there is no way DIY can keep teaming after this airs. Following the match Candice checked on Gargano and she and Ciampa helped him up the stage. Ciampa tried to throw him into the tron but Gargano was not really hurt. Instead he reversed it and threw Ciampa into the tron, battered him then made it quite clear he wanted the belt. How this will all play out on the main roster is anyone’s guess.
  • That’s all folks.
