WWE star Cody Rhodes has revealed that the last match he was offered in AEW would’ve seen him share the ring with a wrestling legend.
Sting is currently preparing for retirement, with The Icon set to wrestle his final bout at AEW Revolution 2024.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes reacted to Sting’s retirement announcement, noting that he was always a fan of the wrestling veteran.
Noting that the final match he was offered in AEW featured Sting, Rhodes said:
“The last match I was offered in AEW was that match.
“It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory.
“I was a little Stinger. Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career.”
Rhodes’ last match as an AEW star saw him lose to Sammy Guevara in a TNT Title ladder match on the January 26, 2022 edition of Dynamite.
It was announced that Cody and Brandi Rhodes were leaving AEW that February, ahead of Cody returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38 that April.
Most recently, Cody picked up a win over Damian Priest at Crown Jewel on Saturday, November 4.
A change made to Sting’s retirement plans has been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
