Next Friday (October 15) is set to be an interesting day in the world of professional wrestling, as AEW and WWE are set to compete head-to-head for 30 minutes.
For those who missed it, WWE announced that next week’s episode of SmackDown would be a ‘supersized’ episode of the show, complete with an extra 30 minute run time, meaning that the final 30 minutes of SmackDown will go head-to-head with AEW Rampage.
AEW President Tony Khan has caught wind of the news, and he’s backing his side to compete against SmackDown. Khan said:
I saw you’re doing a half hour head-to-head with us. I can’t wait to finally beat your main show head-to-head. It’s been a long time coming. See you next Friday for #AEWRampage on @AEWonTNT!
A fan responded to Khan, telling him to ‘worry about his own show’, to which Khan responded:
I already announced the #AEWRampage card for live next Friday, and it’s straight fire, chief.
Next week’s episode of SmackDown is set to air on FS1 instead of the usual FOX, so it will be interesting to see how the numbers look next week.
Both shows have announced stacked line-ups for next week. SmackDown is set to see the return of Brock Lesnar, along with Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks, the King of the Ring and Queens Crown semi-finals, which see Finn Balor vs Sami Zayn and Carmella vs Zelina Vega respectively, as well as the in-ring return of Sonya Deville taking on Naomi.
As for Rampage, it is set to feature CM Punk taking on Matt Sydal, Ruby Soho taking on the Bunny, and Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager taking on the Men of the Year and former UFC Champion Junior Dos Santos.
