Tony Khan Addresses Top AEW Star’s In-Ring Future AEW

Tony Khan has addressed a top AEW star’s in-ring future.

Since debuting for All Elite Wrestling back at Winter Is Coming 2020, Sting has become a mainstay for the promotion and helped to elevate Darby Allin through their partnership together.

Despite a serious neck injury, The Stinger made his return to the ring for the first time since 2015 at AEW Revolution 2021 in a cinematic match before making his proper in-ring return at Double Or Nothing 2021.

Sting is undefeated in AEW despite being 64 years old and is still putting on performances that amaze fans all these years later.

During the AEW All In press call, AEW President Tony Khan was asked if he’s had discussions with the WCW legend about sticking around past his current contract that expires at the end of the year. He answered:

“Sting is very well aware that I would like him to stay as long as he feels physically up to wrestling. I think he enjoys doing it and he’s having a lot of fun.”

“Sometimes you hit on things in life that you think are going to be good and they turn out to be great.”

“For me, a good example of that is Sting and Darby together. Not just on screen, but off-screen too.”

Khan mentioned that he suggested the pairing with Darby Allin to Sting and is glad he was open to the suggestion.

After highlighting some of Sting’s most memorable AEW moments, Khan continued on to note that he doesn’t want to be the one to pull the plug on this run for The Stinger. He stated:

“There have been so many great memories for Sting in AEW. I don’t want it to end. I won’t be the one to pull the plug on it.”

“When the time comes, Sting knows he needs to the one to say, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore,’ because I’m going to let him go as long as he wants.”

“I want him to stay as long as he can. It’s so important to me that we let Sting finish his career the right way.”

Sting is scheduled to team with Darby Allin to face Mogul Embassy’s Swerve Strickland and AR Fox in a Coffin Match at this Saturday’s AEW All In London event. For the full lineup for the show, click here.
