When Ronda Rousey lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair on the December 30 episode of SmackDown, her plans for WrestleMania 39 were seemingly changed around.
Rousey was the original planned opponent for Women’s Royal Rumble match winner Rhea Ripley prior to Charlotte’s victory.
With Charlotte now the champion, and set for a match with Ripley at WrestleMania, we have to look elsewhere for Rousey’s opponent on the show.
Rumours then emerged that WWE was planning for Ronda and Shayna Baszler to face off against Damage CTRL for the Women’s Tag Team Championship at the show in Los Angeles, and we may have got the first shot fired for that potential match today.
Taking to Twitter, Ronda complained about having to face off with Natalya and Tegan Nox on next week’s episode of SmackDown, noting that the Women’s Tag Team titles get defended ‘once every six months’.
She said:
Apparently the entirety of the Smackdown tag division is @NatbyNature plus whatever poor soul she can recruit to her lost cause this week. #USOs defend their title every week, #DamageCNTRL has defended like twice in 6 months. What the hell is going on here?
