Back in 2016, the iconic British wrestling show World of Sport Wrestling returned to ITV for the first time in over 30 years.
After a one-off New Year’s special, the show relaunched in 2018 for a one season run, which was followed by a short UK tour in 2019.
The relaunch of WOS in 2016 was speculated to be the reason behind WWE launching the NXT UK brand the following year.
However, per Inside The Ropes, sources close to WOS have noted that the consortium behind the promotion are looking to relaunch the brand once more.
This time there are multiple approaches on the table, such as WOS running an NWA-inspired broadcast model from a studio.
Two names that have been reached out to by WOS for interest in the relaunch are former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and his wife, former WWE star Mickie James.
Aldis recently announced that he had handed in his notice to the NWA, and will become a free agent on January 1, 2023.
This led to a major falling out between Aldis, Billy Corgan and the NWA that led to him being suspended from the company and removed from the Hard Times 3 event this past weekend.
Controversy surrounded the event when Tyrus was crowned the new NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.
Mickie James is currently in IMPACT Wrestling, where she is set to retire the next time she loses a match in the company.
Mickie was released from WWE back in April 2021, but appeared in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble as the then-reigning IMPACT Knockouts Champion.
