WWE claims Kevin Owens was injured in Lashley attack

The normally cheery facade of Bobby Lashley disappeared this week, only to be replaced by a seemingly more dangerous, aggressive individual. This past Monday during his match against Kevin Owens, Lashley took it upon himself to demonstrate just how dominant he can be.

Flagged by his newly acquired manager Lio Rush, the pair made a very clear statement to the Chicago crowd: Do not to mess with the powerhouse.

After his match with Kevin Owens, the dominator unleashed an unsolicited attack on Owens, wrapping both legs around the ring post in a targeted assault. According to a statement released on the WWE website, Owens sustained an injury after the match:

Bobby Lashley injures Kevin Owens

The powerhouse Bobby Lashley takes on Kevin Owens, two nights after he and John Cena defeated KO and Elias at WWE Super Show-Down.

Kevin Owens sustained injuries to both knees when Bobby Lashley viciously wrapped Owens’ legs around a turnbuckle after their match, WWE.com can confirm.

Owens will undergo further evaluation tomorrow to determine the full extent of the damage.

Stay with WWE.com as new details surrounding Owens’ condition become available.

Many sources, however, are speculating that this is all a work, playing into the pair’s ongoing feud. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the Owens injury is a “classic injury angle” which will likely see Owens kept off of television for a while. It certainly adds fuel to the fire of Lashley’s heel turn.

But what would this mean for Kevin Owens?

By the end of the segment the crowd were heavily booing Lashley and Lio Rush while cheering Owens. Although Chicago is a city known for cheering the bad guys, the post-match angle did paint Owens as the sympathetic victim. Could Kevin Owens make his return from ‘injury’ as the babyface in this feud?

If this is the case, then WWE has pulled off one of the rarest feats in the industry: the elusive double turn.

But what do you think? Could this be a rare double turn? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter. Don’t forget to check out our Discord chat, where you can talk to all of your favourites from WrestleTalk.
