Former WWE Tag Team Rejected Approach To Return WWE

The team formerly known as The IIconics rejected plans for a return to the WWE in 2022 according to both members.

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce made their WWE debuts in 2015 and would feature on NXT before moving to the main roster as The IIconics.

Together they would eventually win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Both women would be released by WWE on 15 April 2021 and go on to a run in IMPACT Wrestling that would last until April 2022 when the pair would take a step back from the wrestling world.

The real-life Jessie McKay and Cassie Lee recently spoke about an attempt to get them to return to WWE in 2022.

Speaking on their Off Her Chops podcast, they revealed:

McKay: “We did get asked to do the Royal Rumble.”

Lee: “Was that the same year? Was that 2022?”

McKay: “Yeah. Eight months after — eight or nine months after our release?”

Lee: “It was a little bit too fresh I think.”

McKay: “I think so too.”

Lee: “We certainly weren’t mentally prepared to go back into — it was too soon basically.”

McKay: “Too much at that time. I definitely loved getting asked. I thought that was nice.”

Lee: “It’s nice to be asked. It also wasn’t a guarantee so it was like, ah, I’m not gonna be the chump who says, yeah, I’ll do it and then they say, um, we don’t need you anymore. Okay, I’ll just go f*ck myself (she laughed).”

McKay: “The release, that took a while to kind of heal from that so… I do (feel healed now). It took a hot minute. I wanna say it probably took over a year.”

Lee: “Well it was our dreams come crashing down in front of our eyes without any sort of control so yeah, it takes time.”

Following their departure from IMPACT Wrestling, the team known as The IInspiration released a joint statement revealing they were “indefinitely stepping away from in-ring action.”

In the podcast, Lee revealed that had stepped away to pursue acting and that she and Shawn Spears had been trying to have a child.

Jessie McKay has previously spoken about the possibility of a return to wrestling, saying “never say never”.
