A WWE star is preparing for an upcoming match by studying the tapes of AEW star Jon Moxley, formerly known as Dean Ambrose.
On NXT (February 27) it was announced that the ongoing rivalry between Dijak and Joe Gacy will take another wacky turn, as the pair will face off in an ‘Asylum Match’ at NXT Roadblock next week (March 5).
Given Dijak’s recent constraining of Gacy inside a straitjacket, it seems rather fitting – and will be the first match of its kind in almost eight years – the last being when Jon Moxley (then Dean Ambrose) faced off with Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules 2016.
In response to the match announcement, Dijak humorously revealed on Twitter that he was set to study tapes of Moxley’s WWE run in preparation.
Dijak wrote:
Brb gonna go study my Dean Ambrose tapes.
While tame compared to the brutality of Moxley’s matches post-WWE, including many in AEW, the original Asylum match was about as close as modern WWE has gotten to hardcore matches of the late nineties-early 2000s in many ways.
Most notably through the usage of thumbtacks, which is something rarely seen in the PG era of WWE.
While their previous encounter at NXT Vengeance Day was a violent affair, it remains to be seen whether Dijak and Gacy will go as far as that in their match at Roadblock, considering this one will be airing on TV instead of Peacock/WWE Network.
