WWE ‘Greatly Overshot’ With WrestleMania 40 Kickoff Attendance WWE

Here’s how many fans attended the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event, featuring The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and other top stars.

There had been a lot of speculation about WWE’s plans for the WrestleMania main event ahead of Thursday’s (February 8) show, with both The Rock and Cody Rhodes both appearing like viable contenders for Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Title.

We now know which match will headline WrestleMania, with Cody Rhodes confirming that he will challenge for Roman Reigns’ gold at WrestleMania, during Thursday’s kickoff event.

Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE “greatly overshot” with the event.

Noting that it’s estimated that between 2000 and 3000 people showed up to the free event, Meltzer wrote:

“As it turned out, they greatly overshot. Even with it being free and Johnson being there, the estimate was only 2,000 to 3,000 people were there, but they were very vocal.”

During the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff show, Cody Rhodes interrupted The Rock and Roman Reigns to confirm that he’ll be challenging for Reign’s gold.

Rhodes then fired shots at Reigns and The Rock before things got physical. The Rock slapped Cody Rhodes after the American Nightmare mentioned his and Reigns’ grandfathers, who connected their bloodlines via a blood oath.

A member of the family bloodline has reacted to this segment, which you can read more about right here.
