WWE are reportedly interested in current Evolve Champion, Shane Strickland. There had been talk of the company making an approach to the star prior to his signing with MLW, but now their interest has been made official.
It came to light, via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, some time ago, that WWE were ready to get aggressive in singing the top indie talent in order to halt other companies from profiting from then. With reports that Evolve want to build their brand around the hot star, Vince and his worker ants may have to act fast.
There is a problem though, and that’s what constant poaching of talent may do to WWE’s working relationship with Evolve and others. They’ve already stolen stars like Keith Lee and Matt Riddle – who is expected at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV – to name a few, and there’s only so much a small indie promotion will take.
Shane Strickland is a hero in Combat Zone Wrestling, a former MLW World Heavyweight Champion, a celebrated name in Lucha Underground as Killshot, and current Evolve Champion having defeated Matt Riddle at Evolve 108 on August 4.
