The recent shake-up of WWE programming that began on Monday with the McMahon Regime taking over the running of Raw and SmackDown on television has led to several changes to existing or planned storylines.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has dropped angles and changed directions on several angles in line with the so-called New Era.
Alexa Bliss was touted as a potential replacement for Baron Corbin in the Raw GM role but that idea has been canned due to the General Manager position becoming obsolete with the McMahons taking over.
Paige as the SmackDown GM has also been cancelled. It is unclear what the futures of Bliss and Paige will be as Bliss is not yet cleared for a return to the ring and Paige is retired.
The Shane McMahon heel turn off the back of his World Cup win at Crown Jewel also appears to be cancelled. It would not make sense to follow up on that storyline now that Shane is a babyface authority figure on both brands.
Similarly, the reasons behind SmackDown getting trounced at Survivor Series and the fallout from that which was expected to start in January has been dropped.
Lucha House Rules, the short-lived and heavily criticised Lucha House Party match stipulation that allowed all three members of the team to wrestle at once has been abandoned. Seth Rollins even mocked it on Raw two weeks ago.
The recent pushes of Mustafa Ali and Finn Balor are related to the New Era shakeup and were not planned prior to the decision to go in a new direction.
Finally, all of the NXT call ups announced on Raw were already in the works for early next year, WWE has simply moved forward the announcement of their impending arrival to tie it in with the New Era.
