On last night’s SmackDown Live, Daniel Bryan made his way down to the ring with the intention of unveiling his new eco-friendly WWE Championship Title. He dropped the prestigious leather strap in the bin while the crowd chanted ‘recycle’ and ‘goodbye, Daisy’ (the name Bryan gave to the cow from which the leather strap was made) before his new vegan warrior Rowan handed the champ his new title.
What followed was the age-old trope of all the brand’s top stars making their way down to ring while talking trash all those already there. AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Mustafa Ali, Jeff Hardy, and Samoa Joe all staked their claim to challenge for the championship in typical fashion. Admittedly, however, Joe was the standout, calling out each individual man with pure venom. He even told Hardy to act like it was an AA meeting and remain silent while the ‘Samoan Submission Machine’ was sharing… this made Orton visibly keel over.
Predictably, a brawl broke out between the five contenders while Bryan stood on the announcer’s desk/table behind his new bodyguard, shouting that none of them would get an opportunity at his lovely new prize.
Then, like a typical General Manager in a world without General Managers, Triple H appeared on the Titan Tron to announce that Bryan would, in fact, defend the WWE Championship against all five of them inside the Elimination Chamber at the pay-per-view of the same name.
With the chamber more-often-than-not producing a title change, we could see a new WWE Champion on February 17. Although a Bryan retention does seem likely with his new cult in the making, someone like Samoa Joe could pick up the win to avoid a heel vs. heel dynamic later down the line.
