ROH Review:
Episode 420 focused on the CMLL superstars who were on display at ROH’s Recent Global Wars Espectacular tour. The big difference in this years tournament compared to years past was the fact that NJPW did not send any of their superstars to participate.
While the CMLL stars were fantastic, they did not have the same drawing power or familiarity to the crowd. Because of this, the crowds were not as fired up as we’ve seen the past for the likes of Sabre Jr., Ishii, or Naito.
However, the matches were still really, really good. In particular, The Villain Enterprises match was a lot of fun. On this episode they only showed the highlights. Again, you can see how much Marty Scurll is over with the ROH crowd. He is arguably the most over act on the roster.
The other man in this discussion is RUSH. RUSH is the new ROH World Heavyweight Champion. He wrestled Barbaro Cavenario. This match featured a worm by Cavanario which was countered into a corner suplex. Rush then hit Bull’s Horns for the win.
ROH is heading to England at the end of the month. Rush will face Jeff Cobb in his first title defense. Cobb came up dramatically short in his last attempt against Matt Taven. PCO was also recently crowned number 1 contender at Glory by Honor.
It will be interesting to see the types of crowds ROH will draw in England. The US market has been very slow. However, they will be featuring Joe Hendry and Mark Haskins who are very popular in The U.K. They’ve also signed up Aussie Open and Speedball Mike Bailey.
