Last night’s SmackDown took place just one day after the Thanksgiving holiday. As a result, WWE would have likely predicted a drop in the ratings compared to last week.
This is exactly what happened, as this week’s show brought in an average of 2.336 million viewers according to Showbuzz Daily.
Last night’s show featured the returns of Alexa Bliss, Elias and Sheamus, as well as a Smackdown Tag Team Championship match between the team of Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro and New Day.
However, WWE only advertised a Bray Wyatt Firefly Fun House segment and a New Day open challenge before the show. The lack of segments being promoted could have affected viewership numbers.
Last week’s show averaged 2.544 million viewers, over 200,000 more than this week. However, neither WWE or FOX will likely not be concerned by this figure when they take into account that the show took place on Black Friday.
This week’s viewership for AEW and NXT from Wednesday has not come in yet due to Thanksgiving. The figures will likely be made available on Monday, so stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com for that.
