Dave Meltzer noted on the Saturday Night Main Event podcast last week that the partnership between Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman is something that WWE higher-ups have been considering for a while.
Meltzer noted that this wasn’t something that WWE creative threw together at the last minute, as the partnership between Heyman and the new Universal Champion has been on the cards for quite some time.
For those that missed Payback, Roman Reigns entered the Universal Championship match at the last minute, kicked The Fiend in the nuts and speared Braun Strowman to win the title, properly cementing his heel turn in the process.
One of the main criticisms with John Cena is that after he dropped his Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick, his character never really developed or evolved. This is why so many fans are excited to see the new heel character of Roman Reigns.
It has been reported that Vince McMahon actually wants to keep the Universal Championship on Roman Reigns until WrestleMania 37 in April 2021 at the very least. You can read that report by clicking here.
Roman Reigns is not only acting like a heel on TV but also on social media too, as he called himself the “best performer of this generation” while responding to a fan that said Roman was being forced down their throats.
