Ahead of Full Gear this weekend, Wrestling Daily co-host and WrestleTalk.com editor Louis Dangoor had the pleasure of interviewing FTR, where they told him that they’ve “begged” Tony Khan to book them in a match with The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
The AEW World Tag Team Champions hit Ricky Morton with a Spike Piledriver on Dynamite a few months ago, and the pair told Louis Dangoor that they hope this eventually materialises into a match between the two teams:
Dax Harwood: “We’ve begged Tony [Khan]. Both of us have begged him multiple times to please book this match, please book this match”. He’s apprehensive and he has his reasons to be apprehensive. There could be backlash from the internet saying these guys are, because of COVID, maybe they’re more suseptible to the virus. There is backlash and there is reasons why he isn’t doing it yet. I understand that but man, FTR vs. Rock ‘n’ Roll is great on the marquee, but also the way that myself and Cash, and I’ve talked about it all the time, but the way that we wanna make people feel, that match would help us make people feel a certain way. For whatever reason, and maybe it’s because he’s one of the greatest of all time, but people feel a certain way about Ricky Morton, and same thing with Cash and I, they have a certain way they feel about us, whether good or bad. That would help us evoke so much emotion… because if we got the chance to beat on Ricky Morton that would help our stock rise. You know, just the Spike Piledriver rose our stock so much more than a year of having great matches, and that would just help us so much if we can ever get that done.
Cash Wheeler: “You look at wrestling now, and like I said, there is some really good stuff out there, but there’s very few things that evoke emotion like we feel we could with Rock ‘n’ Roll. You look at what Roman [Reigns] and Jey [Uso] have been doing, and Jimmy too, man it’s magic and they don’t do a lot, they just evoke your emotions. With the talent that Rock ‘n’ Roll have and the connection they have with the crowd, they’re one of those teams, one of the very few teams left that we feel we could go out there and have the fans emotionally invested from start to finish and believing in every single thing that we did. Before it’s all said and done, somehow we’re going to get FTR vs. RnR.”
A showdown between FTR and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express would undeniably be a spectacle, but you can understand why it isn’t something Tony Khan wants to book right now considering the wider-world situation.
Following on from this, the pair spoke more about what their upcoming match with The Young Bucks means to them on a personal note, with Cash calling it a “love letter to tag team wrestling”. However, both said they were somewhat disappointed by the build.
The full interview has been released on Wrestle2, check that out to see FTR speak about working with Tully Blanchard, just how great Randy Orton is, their issues with the build to their match with Young Bucks at Full Gear and much more.
