Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio that the plan AEW has with Sting right now is to use the WWE Hall of Famer to help elevate Darby Allin up the card.
Meltzer noted that the plan is going to be to pair Sting and Allin up together, possibly even as a tag team, with the end goal being to make Allin feel like a bigger star than he already is:
“The whole thing was obviously to plant the idea that Sting and Darby Allin are together. I mean there were constant shots of Darby Allin while Sting’s out there and Sting’s pointing at Darby Allin and their mentality of this is they are going to use Sting to make Darby Allin into a bigger star.”
Sting saved Cody Rhodes and Allin from an attack at the hands of Team Tazz on Dynamite last night, presumably setting up a six-man tag team match for one of the big Dynamite shows over the next few weeks.
The six-man setting would mean that Sting could be protected somewhat and wouldn’t really have to take any bumps, with reports suggesting AEW is going to be very careful with how they use Sting.
