Last night’s special Christmas Day episode of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX has brought in a frankly brilliant viewership figure, something that will be music to the ears of higher-ups within WWE.
ShowBuzz Daily is reporting that last night’s stacked episode of Friday Night SmackDown drew an average of 3.335 million viewers, bringing in a 0.95 in the all-important 18-49 demographic, which is by far the biggest figure of the year.
The first hour of SmackDown, which kicked off with a Universal Championship Steel Cage match between Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns drew a very impressive 4.097million viewers. Hour two drew 2.574million.
For comparison, the last show on FOX two weeks ago brought in an average of 2.028 million, drawing 2.053million and 2.004million across hours one and two respectively, showing just how big this increase was.
This a jump of over two million from the 1.030 million that the SmackDown on December 18th drew. However, this lower figure was to be expected with that episode of SmackDown being moved to FS1.
The reason for the major hour one star is because the show aired immediately after the Saints and Vikings NFL game on FOX. This is reportedly why WWE opened with the big Universal Championship match.
The show also featured Charlotte Flair and Asuka’s first defence of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and saw Big E defeat Sami Zayn to win the Intercontinental Championship in the show’s main event.
