Vince McMahon has taken Austin Theory under his wing as an on-screen protege of sorts starting with tonight’s WWE Raw.
Last week, it was revealed that Austin Theory stole Vince McMahon’s gold egg at Survivor Series, but Vince actually found it admirable and gave Theory a WWE Championship match that night, which he lost to Big E.
Fast forward a week to tonight, and Theory was back in McMahon’s office, this with the idea that they were going to watch the show together so Vince could give him pointers on how to improve.
Considering how long Vince has been off TV, and how long it’s been since he endorsed someone like this, maybe he’s finally found the next former NXT talent that he believes he can turn into a megastar.
Theory is only 24 years old and is incredibly skilled in the ring, and from what we’ve seen of his backstage segments in NXT and with McMahon so far, he also has great reactions and timing when it comes to those.
The theme of the segments was McMahon teaching Theory to expect the unexpected, and by the end, Theory said he’d learned a lot. However, McMahon went to handshake him, then slapped him right in the face, and said Theory evidently still has a lot to learn. It was all very fun.

He had a brief run on the main roster last year including working at WrestleMania 36 when he was just 22 years old, before going back to NXT and joining The Way under the tutelage of Johnny Gargano, and was then moved to the main roster at the start of October in the WWE Draft.
JBL’s often quoted as saying “if you could build a sports entertainer from scratch it would be Randy Orton”, but a case can definitely be made that Austin Theory is the 2021 equivalent of that.
With the exception of Damian Priest who is effectively unbeaten on the main roster having been on Raw for most of the year, Theory is already off to a much, much better start than most NXT call-ups, including Ridge Holland who just lost his SmackDown debut.
