Three years into the life of AEW, things are no looking as rosy as they once were, even for those with rose-tinted glasses.
Speaking on The Universal Wrestling podcast, Mike Chioda discussed the perceived issues behind the scenes at AEW. Chioda discussed Cody Rhodes’ departure from AEW:
“I was shocked to see Cody go back, I really was.
“When Cody started with Tony Khan, this whole starting AEW, I was just shocked that Cody went back and Tony Khan let him go.
“So you knew there was things going haywire up on the top already before all this.”
Looking at the structure of AEW, Chioda has praised the level of veteran talent in AEW, pointing out that:
“You got a lot of old-school talent. You got Big Show. You got Regal there!”
William Regal had served as WWE’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting during his tenure with the company and that’s something Mike Chioda an idea that he feels Tony Khan could adopt, suggesting:
“You know, make somebody the Head of Talent Relations. I wouldn’t bring in Johnny Laurinaitis, but you need a guy that’s always been there to take the heat like Johnny Laurinaitis or Jim Ross and so forth to handle your talent. And that’s what Vince did, he always had somebody to handle the talent.”
Perhaps this is an idea that Tony Khan will mull over during the investigation into the now-infamous AEW All Out media scrum and its aftermath.
