AEW star Dax Harwood has recalled the day that FTR (then known as the Revival) requested their release from WWE.
FTR requested their release in January 2019, eventually being granted it in April 2020.
Since their release, FTR have gone on to become one of the greatest tag teams in wrestling, holding the AEW World Tag Team Championship and currently holding the ROH, AAA and IWGP Tag Team Championships.
Speaking to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Dax recalled the day that he and Cash Wheeler requested their release from the company.
He said:
“This is going to sound very egotistical and I don’t mean for it to, but we knew that we could do better than what we were doing, and we knew that tag team wrestling could be presented better than it was being presented,”
Continuing on, Dax mentioned that he doesn’t hold any ill will towards Vince McMahon, and the two simply have different views on tag team wrestling.
He added:
“I can’t be mad at Vince.
“If he doesn’t like tag team wrestling, that’s okay. Because one, that’s his company. But two, that’s okay; it’s his opinion to not like it.”
Dax also said in the same interview that he and Cash are considering leaving AEW when their contracts expire next year, taking ayear off of TV wrestling to do things that are ‘fun’ to them.
The duo are set to challenge the Acclaimed for the AEW World Tag Team Championship on next week’s AEW Dynamite.
Dax also spoke about CM Punk’s time in AEW, having nothing but praise for him.
